Last year the Texas Department of State Health Services awarded Federally Qualified Health Centers and similar non-profit health centers $19.3 million in grants for overall improvements.
The various grants ranged from $500,000 up to $1 million. 35 different facilities across Texas were awarded grant funding which was used to renovate facilities in need of repair, hire new staff and purchase new equipment including mobile health units.
“Having previously participated in the FQHC Incubator Program, support from DSHS has been vital to improving Lone Star Circle of Care’s capacity to provide comprehensive healthcare throughout Central Texas. With the FY2023 award, LSCC transitioned from our former Big Pink Bus mobile mammography unit to a new, more dependable vehicle,” said Lone Star Circle of Care Vice President for Advancement Kim Roberts.
Texas Legislation has already set aside an additional $40 million in grants for eligible currently established FQHCs and non-profit health centers looking to become FQHCs in 2024. To qualify for a grant eligible health facilities should go to www.dshs.texas.gov/fqhc-incubator-program and select a list of available options. This is first come first serve so we suggest applying sooner rather than later.
